Vehicle History, a company that allows consumers to access data about used cars, trucks and other vehicles before they buy them, has launched a license plate search service, corporate officials said.
“Like our VIN number check and vehicle recall search services, the information someone can get about a vehicle from a license plate is public information,” said Jennifer Mitchell, a Vehicle History spokesperson. “Because the data is freely available to everyone and already a part of our database, it just made sense to offer this new service as well.”
The license plate search service can help anyone who wants to know more information about a specific vehicle, Mitchell said.
“If a person is trying to decide on what kind of used car they want, simply reading descriptions of cars may not help them,” she said. “Or they might see a great car while out on the road, but not know anything about it, and certainly not the VIN number. But by looking up the license plate, a used car buyer can figure out if it’s the right car for them.”
Mitchell said that no other information is needed to perform the search on the Vehicle History website.
“The license plate number is the only thing the database needs to start its search,” she said. “Within just a few minutes, the customer can have a vehicle’s history, make and model details, and more, right on their computer or phone.”
About Vehicle History
Vehicle History believes that information wants to be free. Our goal is to help people get access to free reports about the history of a used vehicle before they decide whether or not they want to purchase it. With our constantly expanding data sources, we now help more than 11,000 people a day get the free reports they need to help them simplify the otherwise complex process of buying a used car or truck.
We launched last year by providing free reports to consumers while other companies were charging them considerable fees for the information they were looking for. This helped us grow from our humble beginnings – when we were providing roughly 250 reports a day – to our current status, where we have over 7.8 million unique page views a month from consumers who want to learn about our high-quality customer service, our free vehicle history reports and how we can help them navigate the often treacherous used car marketplace.
