Controversial American Figure’s Tale To Be Told Through Graphic Novel

An incredible true story about Captain John Brown

Evanston, Illinois – July 18, 2016 – Chicago-based publisher, FOG DOG, launched a campaign seeking community support to bring the astonishing story of Captain John Brown to life in a graphic novel, “THUNDERBOLT: An American Tale Vol. 1. The goal is to raise $25,000 by August 10, 2016. Funds received will be used to print and release the book to the masses.

THUNDERBOLT: An American Tale explores the life of a provocative figure enveloped within a crucial time in United States history. Captain John Brown is a white American in the 19th century, on a “mission from God”, determined to eliminate slavery throughout the nation. Whether it would be by hook or by crook, who some called a hero and a prophet, while others touted as a terrorist and a madman, lead and abetted thousands of black slaves across the southern states to rebel against their masters. This amazing story is shared in a smart, skillful, passionate manner, meticulously researched and rendered in ways that defy categorization. 

Wilfred Santiago and Sanlida Cheng are the brilliant creative minds behind THUNDERBOLT: An American Tale. Santiago is the author and illustrator of New York Times bestseller “Michael Jordan: Bull on Parade” and the critically acclaimed “21: The Story of Roberto Clemente.” He has worked with companies such as Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Fantagraphics Books, and many others. Cheng is the co-founder of FOG DOG Books and the editor and chief researcher of THUNDERBOLT: An American Tale. She also shared these duties on Michael Jordan: B.O.P. and 21
