August 11, 2016 – Denver, CO – Sterling Literacy Consulting, LLC (SLC) is excited to announce the addition of Sara Mathews to the SLC team. Sara Mathews will serve as Lead Consultant and Implementation Specialist for SLC. Prior to working for SLC, Ms. Mathews worked in Aurora Public Schools for 25 years where she developed a passion for improving reading instruction for all students.
Ms. Mathews began her career as an elementary teacher in both general and special education. Years later she earned the title, Literacy Teacher Leader, received her Administration license in 2008 and moved into a district level administration position for Exceptional Student Services. During these years as a “Consultant for Exceptional Student Services” Ms. Mathews supervised the special education programs in eight schools. She helped lead and supported school level teams with instruction, compliance and parent communication.
Seeking to have a greater impact, the last five years of Ms. Mathews’ career in Aurora Public Schools was spent as an instructional coach and facilitator of new teacher induction. The support and knowledge that Ms. Mathews provides to both new and veteran teachers served to change both the professional growth for teachers and the academic growth for students. Ms. Mathews experience and expertise in a wide range of classroom approaches enables her to capitalize on individual teachers’ strengths.
Sterling Literacy Consulting (SLC) is now signing up schools for teacher workshops, literacy audits, coaching and professional development. In addition to our strong track record in facilitating READ Act implementation, SLC also offers Professional Development in a wide variety of topics including Common Core State Standards, Close Reading, Text Complexity and Using Data to Drive Instruction.
