MILWAUKEE, WI – 18 Aug, 2016 – Today, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled a limited edition, individually numbered Villanova Wildcats 2016 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship Bobblehead. The bobbleheads, which feature Villanova mascot Will D. Cat standing on the 2016 Final Four logo with a replica of the National Championship trophy, are individually numbered to only 504. The bobbleheads just arrived and are available exclusively in the National Bobblehead HOF and Museum Store for $40 each plus a flat rate shipping cost of $8.
Villanova claimed the school’s second National Championship after defeating the University of North Carolina by a score of 77-74 on an incredible buzzer-beater by Kris Jenkins in one of the most memorable championship games in history.
Just a year earlier, Villanova went viral for the opposite reason, as a television camera spotted senior band member Roxanne Chalifoux crying as Villanova walked off the court after being upset by NC State in the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament. The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum launched a Kickstarter Campaign in conjunction with Roxanne to create a Piccolo Girl bobblehead. Roxanne also appeared on the Tonight Show and was the talk of the internet for several days during March Madness.
“It was great working with Roxanne last year creating the Piccolo Girl bobbleheads, and after the heartbreak of last year, this was such a fitting ending,” said Phil Sklar, Co-Founder and CEO of the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum. “In just under a year, Nova Nation went from tears of sorrow to tears of jubilation, and the National Championship bobblehead is the perfect way for Villanova fans to commemorate the Championship forever.”
The day after Villanova clinched the National Championship, Roxanne proclaimed on Twitter, “I want to thank everyone for their kindness and support throughout these crazy basketball seasons. ‘piccolo girl’ can officially retire.” The Piccolo Girl bobbleheads sold out shortly after the Kickstarter concluded.
The Championship Bobbleheads are officially licensed by the NCAA and Villanova Wildcats, and additional pictures of the bobblehead can be found at this link.
