COLUMBUS, OHIO: September, 6th 2016 – In an effort to support local school athletics, Hometown Urgent Care, Ohio’s largest urgent care system, has donated over 1,000 free sports physicals to student athletes throughout its locations in Ohio and Michigan this past summer, totaling over $35,000 in charity.
With the increasing cost of healthcare and school budget cuts, parents with children participating in school athletics may find it expensive to get a sports physical which is required by all school districts for student athletes.
“While the benefits of exercising and participating in sports greatly outweigh the risks, it is very important to have every student athlete undergo a sports physical even before beginning practice with that sport,” said Dr. Crispin Barlatt, Hometown’s lead provider for the NE Ohio Region. “If families or school districts are unable to afford this requirement, it is our obligation to ensure that all student athletes are prepared for the upcoming school year.”
Sport physicals identify any potential threatening conditions such as cardiac strain, while also evaluating other orthopedic conditions/concerns that may need treatment prior to participation. In addition, sport physicals evaluate a student’s history of concussions or head injuries to assess post-trauma or recurring symptoms. Most students are usually cleared to participate in sports.
“It has always been our philosophy to give back and support the communities,” said Manoj Kumar, founder and CEO of Hometown Urgent Care. “Helping those in need has always been a priority for Hometown, and it is a true honor that we have been able to touch so many lives utilizing our medical services throughout all our clinics in Ohio and Michigan.”
Hometown Urgent Care has been actively involved with community engagement since opening its first clinic in 2010. Their gratuitous support has ranged from free flu clinics, sports physicals and vaccinations, in addition to providing high quality healthcare services at discounted rates.
Hometown Urgent Care is Ohio’s largest urgent care system, operating urgent care and occupational health centers in Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, North East Ohio and Michigan. Offering full service clinics that include X-ray, the company provides convenient, affordable medical care for non-life-threatening medical conditions ranging from coughs, infections, stitches and fractures.
