October 15th the nation will pause and remember the precious babies who left their families far too soon. For more than 1 million women every year, it’s a day to honor their deep love for the little ones they were never able to bring home.
Well-known inspirational speaker, licensed therapist, and author, Pam Vredevelt understands the life-long pain many women feel, after losing a child, in Vredevelt’s case, two children. 1983, four months away from her first baby’s delivery, her obstetrician told her, “Pam, I’m not picking up a heartbeat. There doesn’t appear to be any fetal movement.”
Those words plunged Pam Vredevelt, into a deep sea of grief. Her first book, “Empty Arms: Hope and Support for Those Who Have Suffered a Miscarriage, Stillbirth, or Tubal Pregnancy” (Penguin Random House, 100,000+ copies sold) was the outcome of her clinical research and personal quest for understanding and hope after the death of her baby. The book was a Golden Medallion Book Award Finalist.
Twenty-five years later, Pam’s 16-year-old son, was struck by a car and later died.
Vredevelt’s cutting-edge new book offers practical ways to successfully move through grief using a journal. Healing tools she also used while mourning her son. “Women want to know how to embrace their pain and heal their hearts. Through the years, clients have asked me for a guided workbook – one that would lead them step-by-step through grief and prevent from getting stuck. So I created the “Empty Arms Journal: A 21-Day Guide for Healing After Pregnancy Loss”. It offers women simple daily action steps for working through grief, based on neuroimaging brain research and timeless wisdom.
Surprising, Heartbreaking Statistic
With the empathy personal experience brings, and the wisdom of a seasoned therapist, Pam offers sound advice: “If we don’t give pain a voice, we get stuck in it. When we don’t mourn, we don’t mend. What we resist, persists. We must talk about this invisible wound, honor the lives that have been lost, and help families heal,” says Vredevelt.
