Waldport, OR – October 10, 2016 – Minnesota-based Virtue family has recently launched a petition “Let Joel Go” on Change.org seeking justice for the man of the house Joel Virtue who has been unjustly prosecuted by the Federal government. An unfortunate victim of greedy & corrupt bankers, the innocent man is being forced to serve a 5 years sentence.
The petition needs at least 100,000 signatures before it can be sent to United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit as well as Attorney for the President.
“My brother had invested in the realty sector over a decade back. It was his bank that offered his firm low interest mortgages for buying vacant or foreclosed homes. Both he and his partner agreed to have 18 mortgages. But as the recession struck in 2008 toppling the market, the government started looking to prosecute small business owners for taking the sub-prime loans and innocent honest hardworking fellows like my brother were an easy target. Unfortunately, the greedy mortgage brokers and bankers who forced such junk mortgages & repackaged subprime loans with alluring packages got away with their expert expensive lawyers. Your support is much needed here to ensure justice for Joel and hence this petition”, stated Paul, Joel’s brother.

The economic massacre 9 years back took away everything from Joel. Before his investments on the enticing mortgages, he was a hard working peaceful happy family man. Joel had several businesses and a religious and helpful man the he is- he had served in church leadership as well as has helped the community, whenever possible. As the recession struck, his family was compelled to move out from its beautiful home to a rural mobile home in northern Minnesota. He started working with poor kids & teens and founded Pioneer Youth Center, Baudette, which provided essentials like clothing, meals and educational materials to needy kids.
Much to his shock, Joel was investigated and was wrongfully convinced by his court-appointed attorney & prosecutor that he would be given probation if he pleads guilty to one charge. However, just prior to the sentencing, he was denied probation & sentenced for 5 years!
Joel’s 22-year old son Jonathan is a special child who needs constant attention for everything, starting from feeding to bathing. He often gets chronic seizures and Joel’s presence is much needed for his well-being. Joel’s prosecutor had indicated a house arrest out of sympathy but it too was withdrawn just at the final hour.
The innocent man has already served over 4 months and is suffering from serious medical issues of late- that have led to critical nerve damage, acute pain and a chronic heart condition. He cannot sleep most of the times & has lost weight drastically.
“It’s my earnest request to you to correct this injustice imposed upon not just my husband & our son but also several other Americans who are now paying for the crimes of corrupted mortgage brokers, bankers and realtors. Please help to release Joel & expunge the record for him”, added in Mrs. Joel Virtue.
