2017 Laura Wells Signature Curvy Collection for Koru Swimwear

There has been a demand in recent years for more stylish options in swimwear for the average size woman.  With the average woman being a size 14 in the U.S., earth-friendly Koru Swimwear, wanted to bring stylish and eco-friendly swimwear to average size women all over the world.

Koru Swimwear decided to collaborate with international curvy model, Laura Wells, who hails from Sydney, Australia.  Aside from her beauty, her love for the environment was a perfect fit for the new curvy Koru line.  Laura is an environmental scientist and ambassador for 1 Million Women, Cook Islands Whale Research, Water 3 and for Ocean Ambassadors. Her passion and work in ocean conservation focuses on effective solutions and education for the detrimental effects that plastic pollution has on our oceans.

Introducing the Laura Wells Signature Curvy Collection for Koru Swimwear.  The line is sporty, stylish, and flatters all the curves a woman with a fuller figure demands.  While providing great support on top, the swimwear also offers comfort and style for women who are active or just want to look and feel great under the warm summer sun.

Five U.S. dollars from each piece of the Laura Wells Signature Collection will be donated to Cook Islands Whale Research. This will assist them in continuing their invaluable research keeping our whales, our environment, our ocean and our future safe and sustainable, so that your children will be able to experience the sheer wonderment of our incredible oceans.

Laura shares her thoughts on bringing her signature line to the average size woman, “My body is relatable and aspirational to a lot of people. Most models we see showcasing swimwear have similar body shapes and are usually very thin, not representing the broader spectrum of sizes which means a number of women feel excluded. The proliferation of the curvy modelling industry is evidence to the fact that people want to see diversity in advertisements, they want to feel accepted and they want to know they can look and feel beautiful no matter what their size.” Julie Stine, Founder of Koru Swimwear,

thinks Laura is the perfect ambassador for the Koru Swimwear brand and agrees with Laura’s point of view that, “It’s great brands are taking responsibility for relatable images to represent their products such as curvy models representing swimwear for the average woman.  Those images help shape the way we see ourselves.”

The swimwear fabric has the same great qualities as the rest of the Koru Swimwear line which is made from recycled nylon derived from post-consumer items such as discarded fishing nets and carpet fluff bound for landfills.  The fabric also provides UV 50+ protection, and is ultra-chlorine and saltwater resistant, to name a few of the great fabric qualities.

ABOUT KORU SWIMWEAR

Koru is the New Zealand Maori word for “spiral” and is symbolic for new life, hope, spiritual growth, purity, and peace.

Koru Swimwear is inspired by the Kiwi lifestyle, best described as a relaxed attitude with a love of the environment and great outdoors.  Founder, Julie Stine, wanted to share her Kiwi heritage with others around the world by epitomizing the active Kiwi lifestyle into earth-friendly swimwear and apparel that offers environmentally conscious women a combination of fashion and function.

Koru Swimwear uses only swimwear fabric derived from 100% regenerated polyamide made by ECONYL®.  ECONYL® works in partnership with HealthySeas.org to use discarded fishing nets pulled from our oceans to make the regenerated yarn in our fabrics.

Our apparel is made using sustainable and organic fabrics that eliminate the use of harmful herbicides, pesticides and fungicides.  We also extend our environmental approach into everything we do, from using recycled paper hangtags, to packaging our swimwear in compostable clear bags made from plant materials.
