The book includes insights from eleven Divorce Coaches with the collective mission of providing simple strategies for creating a healthy divorce. “Divorce: Taking the High Road” gives actionable advice for all stages of divorce. From staying out of court, to effective communication and decision-making during the divorce process, to moving on after divorce. The insights shared throughout the book all have an underlying theme of maintaining one’s dignity throughout the divorce and beyond.
The book hit eight Amazon bestseller lists within the first week of its release. It ranked #1 in the “Divorce and Separation” category.
According to Renee Harrison, president of Moguly Media, who served as publisher and project manager for the book: “We are extremely fortunate to have the caliber of Divorce Coaches who gave their time to be interviewed for this project. Each and every one of them is a true advocate and educator. To have Amazon put this book at the top of their bestseller lists in divorce and family law categories is an incredible achievement and puts a spotlight on the appreciation and recognition they deserve.”
Co-author Cooper shares her motivation for becoming a contributor to this book project: “I was compelled to work with Jeremy Kossen and Renee Harrison to develop a book about taking the high road in divorce to show the value of hiring a CDC Certified Divorce Coach(r) and the impact that hiring a divorce coach can have on the experience of divorce for individuals and families. There are hundreds of decisions that you might make day in and day out that can have a significant impact on the trajectory of your divorce and the indelible mark it can leave on the lives of everyone that is touched by that divorce. Using your experience to re-define who you are at your best rather than defining you at your lowest point serves as a model for your children as they face their life disappointments. If more people knew about the transformational power of divorce coaching, everyone would be advising their divorcing friends and family and clients to ‘first get a CDC Certified Divorce Coach(r), and then use them to assemble the rest of your team’.”
Cooper wrote the Preface and the Introduction titled, “Divorce Coaching as Access to Taking the High Road.” Cooper states, “The whole book is intended to provide simple, clear steps for anyone who is divorcing or considering divorce to support them in taking the high road in their thinking and their actions and to realize they do not have to do this alone. While taking the high road is not easy – there are simple steps you can take which can change the outcome of every conversation, every decision and in the long run, the whole experience of divorce.”
Cooper states the intended outcomes for her book contribution are as follows: “In the Introduction Chapter I am laying the groundwork and creating the big picture of how a divorce coach can support an individual faced with the prospect of divorce to create a healthy divorce by taking the high road. Recognizing that the adversarial nature of divorce and the impact that divorce can have on all aspects of your life can disable your best thinking and cause even the best intentions to get derailed. A divorce coach as a thinking partner and sounding board can support an individual in becoming a more credible client, a better communicator, and be more organized in the divorce process.”
According to Cooper, “The ability to find greater purpose in your life beyond the divorce and to reconnect with your values, your strengths and who you are when you are at your best is how a divorce coach can support you as you move through the process of transition [called divorce].”
The CDC Certified Divorce Coach(r) Program provides training and certification for personal divorce coaches. Cooper explains, “Personal divorce coaches are those professionals who support divorcing individuals through the rough spots, helping them to make the best possible decisions for their future based on their particular interest, needs, and concerns. Our certification represents professional standards reflected in our code of ethics and personal excellence, with a foundation of trust and spirit of generosity for all we serve. Since 2011, we have trained family attorneys and mediators, therapists and coaches, financial experts, and other professionals from the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Latin America seeking a more fulfilling way to leverage their expertise in divorce.”
