The Indians have been to the World Series five times previously and they won the championship in 1920 and 1948. In 1920, they beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in a best of 9 games series. In the 1948 World Series, the Indians defeated the Boston Braves in 6 games with 4 wins and 2 losses. The Cleveland Indians were also in the 1954, 1995 and 1997 World Series. In 1954 the Indians were favored because they had won 111 games during the regular season, however, the New York Giants swept them in 4 games. The Atlanta Braves ruined the Indians World Series in 1995 when they won in 6 games (4-2). Two years later in 1997, the Tribe lost to the Miami Marlins in 7 games.

Cleveland natives are proud of their sports teams and 2016 has been a phenomenal year for professional sports in Cleveland with the Cavaliers winning the NBA Finals, the Lake Erie Monsters winning the Calder Cup and now the Cleveland Indians are a week away from possibly being the 2016 World Series champions.  Terry Francona, the current manager of the Indians, led the Boston Red Sox to two World Series Championships in 2004 and 2007.  Interestingly, the Red Sox swept both the 2004 World Series and the 2007 World Series in just 4 games each.

Progressive Field is the home stadium for the Cleveland Indians and it is part of the Gateway Spots and Entertainment Complex. During the regular season, diehard Indians fans cheered on their favorite team and nicknamed them the “Windians.” Originally, this venue was called Jacobs Field from 1994 until 2008 in honor of former Cleveland Indians team owners Richard and David Jacobs. In 2008, Progressive Insurance Company purchased the naming rights for the ballpark.
