LOS ANGELES, CA – 31 Oct, 2016 – The producers behind the new horror feature CLOWNTOWN, currently available on DVD and VOD, have become concerned with the recent rash of clown sightings and threats in the news and urge those dressing up this Halloween and fall season to have fun but practice restraint.
“To our knowledge, the local penitentiary won’t be showing CLOWNTOWN,” says producer Christopher Lawrence Chapman. “Also, the food is probably better at home.”
CLOWNTOWN tells the story of a group of friends stranded in a seemingly abandoned town who find themselves stalked by a violent gang of psychopaths dressed as clowns. The movie is loosely inspired by the people who dressed as clowns and terrorized Bakersfield, CA in 2014.
The filmmakers, who have fielded interviews about the clown craze from such outlets as the BBC, have seen fiction become reality as increasingly bizarre clown scares have occurred in the past weeks over at least 40 U.S. states and 11 other countries.
“We’ve gotten concerned,” says writer/producer Jeff Miller. “We encourage everyone to have a good time this Halloween, but please be careful and respectul of others.”
Tom Nagel directed from a script by Miller. The movie stars Brian Nagel, Lauren Elise, Andrew Staton, Katie Keene, Jeff Denton, and Greg Violand. David H. Greathouse, Chris Hahn, Ryan Pilz, Beki Ingram, and Alan Tuskes play some of the murderous clowns.
Greathouse (of Syfy’s “Face/Off”) handled the bulk of the makeup FX. Miller, the two Nagel brothers, Chapman, and Ronnie D. Lee produced. Robert Kurtzman (FROM DUSK TILL DAWN) co-produced. The movie was filmed in 2015, well before the current clown craze.
After a limited theatrical release starting September 30th, CLOWNTOWN is now available on DVD through Amazon and Walmart and on VOD through most major cable providers.
