HOUSTON, November 23, 2016Fannin Innovation Studio, a nationally recognized life sciences development group focused on commercializing innovation from Texas Medical Center Institutions, today announced it is now accepting applications for its 2017 Spring Entrepreneurship Fellow Program.

Fannin’s Entrepreneurship Fellow Program is a two-year, full-time interdisciplinary leadership program that supports and develops future leaders in life science commercialization.

Innovative scientists looking to gain experience in developing and managing early-stage life sciences companies are encouraged to apply.  Fannin’s Fellow Program provides those selected  with the opportunity to lead one or more of Fannin’s portfolio technologies including commercially important aspects of research and development, and learn about other key elements including intellectual property strategies, regulatory affairs, business development, grant writing and financing. Fellows will also participate in a development program designed to complement their experiential learning activities and build relationships and networks within the Houston community through attendance at industry workshops and conferences as part of their fellowship experience.

“The Fellow Program provides a unique opportunity for a scientist or engineer to make the transition into life sciences commercialization through hands-on learning and mentoring.  It also provides an opportunity to meet and develop relationships with the next generation of life science leaders,” said Dr. Atul Varadhachary, Managing Partner, Fannin. “We have been pleased that our fellowship has attracted some extraordinarily strong candidates that possess the passion required to help commercialize future life-saving technologies.”

Fellows currently working with Fannin are exposed to a wide range of disciplines within the life science arena.

Fannin’s portfolio programs include therapeutics, medical devices and diagnostics. They address a broad range of diseases including defense against inhaled pathogenic threats, asthma, cancer, autoimmune diseases, and hearing loss, as well as a variety of device technologies including biomedical assay platforms, robotic and imaging technologies, and cardiovascular devices.

“This is an exciting time to be in the life sciences industry,” said Melissa Singh, Ph.D., current Fannin Principal and former Fellow. “Through the Fellow Program, I had the opportunity to develop a network of colleagues and mentors that will be influential throughout my career and learned a lot of what is needed for successful commercialization by gaining unique insights into the inner workings of biotechnology start-ups.”

Applicants must have experience, or an interest, in life science research, clinical care, or commercialization and be authorized to work lawfully in the United States for the duration of the fellowship. A master’s degree or Ph.D. in an engineering field or a Ph.D./MD/PharmD (or equivalent) in a biological or related field is highly desirable.

Those interested in applying should submit a 2-page CV/resume and a 1-page statement of interest to Serena Miggins at serena@fannininnovation.com. Please put 2017 Spring Entrepreneurship Fellow Application as the subject of the email.

Applications must be received by midnight, Monday, November 28, 2016.
