Southern Maryland Youth Football Team Wins The Pro Football Hall of Fame Midwest National Championship in Canton, OH

Normally about this time of year you would hear shouts of #HTTR in the DMV (DC, MD, VA) metropolitan area, but it’s not to the Redskins this time, it’s the 9U Division 1 Waldorf Wildcats of Charles County Maryland. The SMYAC Youth football team returned home from the Pro Football Hall of Fame Midwest National Championship, Sunday morning November 27th 2016 with the national trophy in tow.

The consecutive 4x Maryland State and League Conference Champions 9UD1 Waldorf Wildcats, , now National Champions, made a humble but present statement in Canton, OH on day 1 of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Midwest National Championship with a 21-0 win over the Michigan Raiders, followed up with a flawless 20-0 score against the 3-season undefeated Cincinnati, Ohio Red Raiders Elite for the National Championship win.

The 1,000+ pound “precision drive blocking” force to be reckoned with offensive line, “lights out” defensive line, and “lighting” speed skill players of the 9UD1 Waldorf Wildcats left supporters of the opponents-Cincinnati, Ohio Red Raiders Elite in awe, one supporter stated “They are a discipline team” and “They came to play!” by the end of the 1st half, Waldorf Wildcats was up 13-0, one of opponent’s supporters recording the game stated “I can’t even watch this anymore, we out here getting losing bad!”

“I was a little nervous because we had so much support, not only from parents but sponsors that believe in our boys, myself and my coaching staff just wanted our boys to have a good time, with no pressure to win, just play like champions, just play with class,” said head coach Will Drakeford.

Like the famed featured film 300, The Waldorf Wildcats gave “nothing” and took “everything” from their opponents in Canton, OH at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Midwest Nationals. This was one of the many moments of the season they’d worked towards since August.

The coaches are adamant that it’s not all about winning, and it’s not all about football, it’s about developing educated young men for life skills, and the ability to “Dream Big” which is why the 9UD1 Waldorf Wildcats team partnered up with Time4Learning one of the nation’s online educational platforms. The team also received much appreciated support on the journey to the National Championship from numerous sponsors such as The Gillard Allstate Insurance Agency, T-Mobile, Body Armor Super Drink, Target, ESPN Charlotte with Former NFL NE Patriots defensive back Tony George & BOSS Management, who gave a generous donation, as well as media highlights from Radio One’s WPGC 95.5FM-Guy Lambert & Tony Redz.

In addition to bringing the National Championship home to the Waldorf Wildcats Youth Football League, the 9UD1 Waldorf Wildcats were acknowledged in front of over 30 thousand excited fans on national television, and able to shake hands with the entire starting lineup of the Cleveland Cavilers to include Labron James during the halftime highlights. This will be one holiday game day this young group of future leaders will always remember.
