Wilhite, an award-winning commercial filmmaker, creator of the Feed Your Happy app, and founder of nCOURAGE.LIFE calls himself a ‘recovering grump-a-holic’. Having experienced a significant personal transformation, Wilhite now provides tools and training to help others systematically create healthy thought patterns, eliminating the dependency on outside events and circumstances to determine happiness.
The timing of the book’s release is significant. During the holidays 44% of women will experience a dramatic spike in stress levels. The American Psychological Association also determined that, as a coping mechanism, 41% of women will turn to food for comfort and 28% will turn to alcohol as an escape. Plus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that antidepressant use in the U.S. have increased nearly 400% from 1988-1994 through the 2005-2008 reporting periods.
The new book provides a non-medicated alternative to coping with stress, anxiety, fear, and overall discouragement. It is based off of the scientific research of positive psychology, which is a new branch of psychology led by top-tier universities like Harvard, Stanford, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Speaking about the new findings, Shawn Achor, an ex-Harvard researcher and acclaimed positive psychologist says, “You have to train your brain to be positive just like you work out your body.” Because this branch of psychology is so new, this is still emerging information for most people.
When asked why he wrote the book, Wilhite responds, “When I learned about the scientific research behind positive psychology, I was forever changed—temporarily. Unfortunately, it didn’t take me long to drift back into my old ways of thinking. After successfully creating systems to mentally condition myself into more productive thought patterns, I wanted to make the training available to others.”
Wilhite teamed up with Dr. Christian Laplante, a clinical psychologist to develop the methodology. “Many books on the study of human potential leave you with a passion to implement good notions learned, but few provide concrete, achievable strategies to put them into long-term practice,” Wilhite says, as he points out the step-by-step process is the secret to making lasting change.
Providing mindset conditioning tools that enable people to be more deliberate about their mental habits is at the center of Wilhite’s business, nCOURAGE.LIFE. “It’s all about incremental improvement,” says Wilhite, who affirms the goal is to turn healthy, positive thought patterns into habits and habits into a lifestyle.
Dr. Paul Jenkins, a clinical psychologist who now purely counsels clients using positive psychology principles said of Wilhite’s book, “Trying to find happiness is kind of like trying to find piano skills. Stop looking for happiness and start working on it. This book will be a very practical tool for me to use with my clients”.
Emphasizing the new principles, popular author, speaker, and filmmaker, Greg Reid wrote this about the new book, “Once you learn happiness is a skill, you’ll never go back to just wishing for it”.
Wilhite’s book, “The 7 Core Skills of Everyday Happiness: Scientifically Proven Skills for a Happier, More Meaningful Life” is available in both Kindle and print versions on Amazon.com.
