Oakland, CA – February 24, 2017: After the phenomenal success of its 2016 conference, MobilizeGreen is back with its annual conference this year. The 2017 MobilizeGreen Annual Conference and Diversity Career Fair is scheduled for March 2-4 and will be hosted at Oakland City Hall, Oakland, California in partnership with City Council Member Desley Brooks.
Driven by the need to diversify the environmental sector, the theme of this year’s event is “Environmental Equity: Investing In Diverse Leadership.” The conference is aimed at developing talented, passionate Millennials as future leaders who will actively solve environmental challenges in the communities that need them the most. MobilizeGreen has landed two highly prestigious speakers to keynote the event: Randy Moore, Regional Forester, USDA Forest Service and Dr. Ruha Benjamin, Assistant Professor, Princeton University will deliver inspirational and thought-provoking remarks.
“We are pleased to announce that MobilizeGreen will be engaging 150 young leaders from around the country for its Annual Conference for 2017 in the coming month in Oakland. We know that young people are looking to get their foot in the door to start or expand their careers, yet nonprofits, government agencies, and business employers face challenges in spotting, recruiting, and engaging these leaders who will be needed to help solve the nation’s environmental challenges. This innovative conference solves this,” stated Deborah White, Board Member of MobilizeGreen.
What separates this event from other regular green conferences is that, for the first time, there will be a safe place for young people to unapologetically talk about environmental equity issues and solutions for their communities while they learn, network, and give back. There also is nothing like this event for employers who want to recruit and learn from top diverse talent with green STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and environment-related degrees and interests.
“The aim of our conference is to inspire, engage and mobilize next-gen green leaders who reflect the changing demographics of all communities. There will be thought-provoking panel sessions, high impact networking opportunities with key decision makers and workshops to refine how employers and diverse young connect around career-related issues.”
There will be two tracks, one focused on young leaders and the other focused largely on employers:
- Track 1 will focus on “Pathways to Success: Developing Your Green Career” where attendees would learn on:
- How to “Green” Your Resume to Standout
- Networking for Results
- Track 2 will focus on “Creating a Diverse Sustainable Workforce with Millennials” which will talk about:
- The Diversity Inclusion Collaborative Engagement. (“D.I.C.E.”) Framework
- Using Technology to Advance Environmental Equity
“We need to engage future environmental leaders now more than ever given the changing environmental priorities in this country.” Join us to hear from thought-leaders and what the future leaders have to say about it.”
