Portsmouth, UK – On Feb 19 2017, New Globe Traveller launched a Kickstarter campaign for world’s first line of eco-friendly luxury bags made from upcycled leather and tire inner tubes. For every bag sold, an underprivileged child’s education is supported for a year.
Designed in the UK, the products are individually hand-crafted in India from unused leather procured from tanneries and tire inner tubes that would otherwise have posed an environmental hazard.
“New Globe Traveller is about connecting modern buyers with tangible social change,” explains Founder, Rajeev Olickel, “Every time you buy a New Globe Traveller product, you have a positive impact on the environment by reducing waste. You also personally help secure the future of an underprivileged child by kick-starting their education.”
Did you know that humans generate 2.12 billion tons of waste each year and 99% of what we buy ends up in the trash within 6 months? Or that 1 in 10 children will never see the inside of a classroom while 1 in 5 children are engaged in child labor? These are sad truths but as businesses and consumers, we have the power to change these things for the better!
Here’s how it works: First, the customer purchases one of New Globe Traveller’s products and sends in a selfie. Next, an underprivileged child gets a scholarship in the customer’s name, including the provision of books, shoes, and uniforms. Then the item is shipped to the customer along with a ‘Hero’ card with the student’s picture and a link to a website where the customer can follow the child’s progress throughout the year.
For this Kickstarter campaign, New Globe Traveller is introducing a line of five ethical, sustainable, and meaningful luxury bags. Each of these bags is designed to be both functional and stylish, with options ranging from a day-to-day messenger bag to a bag that can carry everything you need for your next weekend getaway.
“Our products are designed in the UK and manufactured by our partners in India who are an environment focused, fair trade company,” says Olickel, “They are acknowledged by the United Nations and their manufacturing has been covered by the CNN. The manufacturing unit provides employment to people from underprivileged and marginalized backgrounds and gives them a means for sustenance.”
In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can gain access to a variety of rewards including a ‘League of New Heroes’ badge for £5, a Messenger Bag for £95, £100 for a Ladies Tote Bag, and more. Backers can also pledge £110 for a Laptop/Business Bag, £120 for a 20L Backpack, or £135 for a Weekend Holdall.
