Moff®, a pioneer in wearable Internet of Things (IoT) platform and solutions, announced it has secured a total of US$2.7 million (¥300 million Japanese Yen) in capital funding, led by Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI), Energy & Environment Investment, Inc., and Tsuneishi Capital Partners Co., Ltd. This funding allows Moff to accelerate the product and business development of the Moff Wearable IoT Platform for healthcare, physical activities and physical rehabilitation using motion sensors.

“Together with our partners, Moff is actively developing a unique platform for active gamification services that use the Moff wearable band and our 3D motion recognition technology,” said Aki Takahagi, co-founder and CEO of Moff. “The Moff Wearable IoT Platform will provide entertainment, education and healthcare services for B2B and B2B2C channels, both in Japan and around the world.” Under the supervision of sports health scientists and physical therapy specialists, Moff has researched and developed technologies to accurately recognize, evaluate and analyze the results of physical and cognitive activities using motion sensors. Moff’s initial focus is in the senior and elderly healthcare market.

Wellness is an important health priority for any society as the world’s aging population increases. In Japan, medical expenses have expanded to over US$350 billion (¥40 trillion yen) annually in 2015 according to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. IoT solutions can help reduce costs and improve support for physical rehabilitation, nursing care, preventive healthcare and wellness.

Moff will introduce an IoT solution for elderly healthcare, physical activities and rehabilitation using sensor technology customized for medical, healthcare and nursing care providers. This comprehensive solution uses 3D motion recognition, physical rehabilitation and cognitive skill evaluation and data analysis, gamified fitness content distribution, and a dashboard backend system which can record and manage an individual’s activities and results. This solution will be available for the Japan market and in other countries later in 2017.
