500 tons of chicken recalled after 5 complaints of metal objects, no injuries. Bible health laws have better basis for food safety than FDA policy: expert.
Millions out of work and homeless beg for food, but when five report metal in their meat, tons are wasted. Why? Lawyers fight for settlements that judges award, based on bad laws. Biblical law would compensate for losses until a person is healed, but offer no settlements for mental pain or emotions. Congress, made up mostly of lawyers, is failing to see how biblical law could cut costs and give a better basis for health, safety and commerce, says Richard Ruhling, MD, MPH.
“If I had been the CEO of OK Food, Inc. I would have paid for dental repairs without going to court, and not have recalled the chicken,” says Dr. Ruhling. Greed is rewarded in court against some corporations, but rarely against drug companies. Why is that? Could their $400 million in donations to persons in congress for reelection campaigns have anything to do with it? “You shall not pervert justice; you shall not show partiality, nor take a bribe, for a [donation] blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.” Deuteronomy 16:19
Dr. Ruhling claims Biblical laws offer superior guidelines for food safety and health than the FDA. Leviticus 11 defines unclean meats that would include pork and shellfish commonly eaten by millions, but also a problem for cholesterol and disease.
In Bible times, animal inspection for disease was careful, but 10 cattle carcasses a minute on a conveyor belt in Omaha’s slaughter houses doesn’t allow much but a shrug.
The fat and blood of meat is forbidden in Leviticus 3:17—we now know the fat is a factor in heart disease. We should know the blood of diseased animals could be a risk for cancer.
Most people have bitten something that wasn’t food without injury, and they wouldn’t think of going to court over it. Why base our laws on what’s unlikely and why should businesses need insurance to protect against greed? Ruhling decries the ruination of America by lawyers in Congress and a Supreme Court that is dividing the country over equal rights of minority issues. Israel’s wisest king said, “Righteousness exalts a nation.” The reverse is true for US.
