Graphic Artist Icon Bart Sears is Publishing a Compendium of His Beloved “Brutes and Babes” Articles for the First Time in a Stand-Alone Book

For nearly thirty years, Bart Sears has been one of the most revered figures in the comic book field. His illustrious career includes projects with DC, Marvel and Dark Horse Comics.  His unrivaled skill as an artist helped shape successive generations of graphic artists like Gustavo Duarte, Andy Park, and Ryan Ottley. Sears’ most influential work was his column “Brutes and Babes” which ran in Wizard Magazine for almost a decade.  His column included invaluable insights for amateur and veteran artist, and remains one of the tentpoles of the industry.

For the first time, Bart Sears is collecting all of his “Brutes and Babes” pieces — along with five completely new lessons — for publication in a stand-alone How-to-Draw book “Bart Sears’ Drawing Powerful Heroes: Brutes and Babes!”  This 96 to 144 page compendium, edited by Sears, will include 8.5 x 11 images and is expected to set the new standard for comic art instruction.  Tutorials will include topics like proportion, layout, storytelling, anatomy, gesture and structure.

Furthermore, Sears will also be publishing a separate volume “Black Book: The Art of Bart Sears.” that will include comic art, concept designs, and toy designs from his celebrated thirty year career.  This stunning work will feature many previously published masterpieces as well as never-before-seen artwork.

To help defray the costs of publication, Sears has sponsored a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter. You can be a part of this historic project by financially backing this campaign. In return, you can earn valuable perks like digital editions of “Bart Sears’ Drawing Powerful Heroes: Brutes and Babes!” or “Black Book: The Art of Bart Sears”; print editions of “Bart Sears’ Drawing Powerful Heroes: Brutes and Babes!” or “Black Book: The Art of Bart Sears”; original Head Sketch; original Half-figure Sketch; original Interior Art Page; half-hour Skype session with Bart Sears; original Cover Art; original Cover for “Bart Sears’ Drawing Powerful Heroes: Brutes and Babes!” or; original Full-figure Sketch.
