A feedthrough capacitor is a feedthrough terminal that provides a desired value of capacitance between the feedthrough conductor and the metal chassis or panel through which the conductor is passing. It is mainly used for bypass purposes in ultra-high-frequency circuits. Feed through capacitors are formerly designed for DC power line in RF module or system. It passed through the DC (and low frequency signals) but blocks the RF energy. In practical use the feed through capacitors are fitted to the metal case of the RF module on holes where the wires enter the system. They let the signal pass through but will stop the RF from absconding from the device through that hole to the outside wiring.
A feed-through capacitor in which a composite dielectric layer made of a varied material comprising a resin material and dielectric material powder is organized between a feedthrough terminal and an outer electrode terminal surrounding, a capacitance being formed between the feed through terminal and the outer electrode terminal. Feedthrough capacitors are used by making aincreasing hole in the shielding case and soldering the ground electrode directly to the shielding case (plate). Since this type of capacitor has no residual inductance on the ground terminal side as well as on the signal terminal side, it can provide nearly ideal insertion loss characteristics.
