It is estimated that over 2,000 race participants, volunteers and spectators will attend this year’s Rock The Block. “It grows each year,” says Katherine Utley, board member and mother of Jim Utley, for whom the foundation was named. “Jim passed away eleven years ago and we are so proud that his name lives on doing great things in our community.”
The Jim Utley Foundation helps youth realize healthy and productive living without the use of street drugs and unnecessary prescription medications. The organization rewards and recognizes youth ages 10-17 years for getting good grades, performing community service and being active in extracurricular activities such as organized sports and clubs. Rock The Block 2017 benefits The Jim Utley Foundation’s Scholarship Fund, which will help youth in-need afford summer camp as well as other activities in athletics and fine arts to keep them busy and out of trouble.
A race shirt and finisher medal will be distributed to all participants, while supplies last. In addition, Norma’s Café (sponsor) will include $5 gift certificates for free food to up to 2,000 participants.
The event is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Plano, the Utley Family, Staples Copy & Print (Frisco), Charter Spectrum, Kroger, Precision Document Solutions, Norma’s Café, Panera Bread, CiCi’s Pizza, Foster Financial Group, DJP Creative, Plano Profile, Good Life Family Magazine and friends of The Jim Utley Foundation.
