Kelly, North Carolina – The 2015 Pacific Book Reviews winner (under religion category) entitled, Still Standing: On the Word of Godby Sheila P. Watkins continues winning the attention of the readers and critics through its poignant and spiritual awakening story.
Though this is her debut, being recognized by the prestigious book reviewer proves that writing runs in her veins. Still Standing is about the protagonist Sharde whose life begins in tragedy and is doomed to end likewise. She faces the end of her mother in her fathers hand at a young age. Living her home to be with her grandparents care along with her siblings, she bears the responsibility as their second mother. Readers are drawn to her hardships and emotional torture that Sheila painstakingly narrates and describes. Sheila chooses words that pierce and accentuate a real character in pain and abandonment issues.
The plot thickens when Shardes father is released from prison, and she has to pick her own path despite all the things she has gone through. Inspired by the teachers who show her that the world hasnt run of kindness and aspirations to motivate others, she desires to be a teacher and live with a purposeful undertaking. Will she succeed in fulfilling her dream? Or, will the scars of the past deter her from moving and looking forward?
An Amazon reviewer comments, Amazing book I would recommend this book to anyone that have been going through various trials. I know this book would encourage you to stand on Gods word and trust Him with your life.
Sheila affirms that this novel tells us how powerful our faith in God is. She adds that everybody needs support and providence from those who offer a helping hand and reliance on what can be done to change the course of ones journey. With him, all things are possible. No matter what your beginnings, she concludes.
