Kevin Reddick knows the effects of a crack cocaine addiction on a life. For nearly thirteen years, his addiction to the powerfully addictive stimulant made from the leaves of the coca plant resulted in incarceration, homelessness, hopelessness, and guilt. In his new release, The Lazarus Connection (Redemption Press 2017), Reddick tells his personal story of being set free to give hope to those battling any form of addiction. He says, “All things are possible when one maintains a relationship and hope in God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.” He has been free from addiction for over twenty years.
With addictions, including alcohol and drug use, as well as behavioral addictions, affecting the daily lives of 40 million Americans, a story of deliverance has great relevance. Some 36.8 million Americans, ages 12 and over, have used cocaine at least once in their lives, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NADA). The use of the stimulant and complications causes the death of 15,000 Americans each year. Cocaine is also the most common drug related to arrests due to narcotic use or dealing.
From his beginnings as a young man on the streets, and in the Nation of Islam, to his years of addiction, relapses, failure, despair, to his ultimate freedom and deliverance through the gospel of Jesus Christ, Kevin Reddick’s story is a powerful testimony of the importance of having a living relationship with God. In The Lazarus Connection, he makes the symbolic comparison between the biblical resurrection of Lazarus by Jesus to his own resurrection and transformation to new life.
Kevin Reddick has served in areas of evangelism, prison ministry, and Christian education. He is the founder and director of the Manhood 712 workshop, is currently the director of Nation of Jesus Men’s Ministry at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest, GA, has a master’s in religious studies, and is currently pursuing a master of divinity.
