In the morning (Beijing Time) of June 6th, Mr. Carlos CHAGUACEDA, general director of Madrid Region Tourism Bureau of Spain and Ms. Jennifer ZHANG, CEO of Spain Asialinkspain, visited Ctrip’s head office in Shanghai, and attended the Madrid Tourism & Ctrip Strategic Cooperation Signing Ceremony, on which Ms. Yang Xiaoli, vice president of Ctrip, signed the agreement as the representative of Ctrip. The launching of the strategic cooperation expects more intensive cooperation between Ctrip and Madrid Region in more areas, including destination marketing and product development in the future.
Mr. Carlos CHAGUACEDA, general director of Madrid Region Tourism Bureau, made a speech on the ceremony: “in the past one or two years, as the number of foreign tourists kept growing, Spain has become one of the most popular destinations in Europe. We are very excited to see more and more Chinese tourists heading for Spain. As an important destination in Spain, the Madrid region has a lot of interesting attractions, not only in the city of Madrid, but also around the city. We hope to introduce more and more such touring resources to Chinese travelers through Ctrip.” In addition, Mr. Carlos CHAGUACEDA also highly praised the rapid development and the achievements of Ctrip, saying that cooperating with such leading enterprise as Ctrip makes them feel more confident for their exploration and promotion in Chinese market in the future. Ms. Yang Xiaoli, vice president of Ctrip, also said: “Madrid possesses abundant tourism resources, because a lot of its assets, such as football, culture and history can serve as good theme of promotion. As the leading OTA in China, Ctrip is fully competent to well promote Madrid region, a destination already very famous in China.”
As early as January of this year, Ms. Chen Jiang, Ctrip’s CEO for destination marketing, attended FITUR, the International Tourism Fair in Spain, held in Madrid, and initially figured out the cooperation intent between the two parties. She hoped that the strategic cooperation agreement signed in China this time will serve a good begging for a series of consequential promotion plans for Madrid region. At present, Ctrip and Madrid region has begun to making plan for a series of online integrated destination marketing in China, starting from the second half of this year, and for the Chinese cities with direct flight to Madrid, Madrid region will cooperate with Ctrip to make joint offline promotion, so as to better explore the Chinese market. Regarding to the effect of the cooperation, Mr. Roger Qiu, general manager of destination marketing for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, revealed that, during the warm-up cooperation in Madrid flagship store early this year, the booking for the local hotels through Ctrip increased by over 100%, and the momentum will be maintained as the promotion becomes more and more intensive.
After the ceremony, Mr. Carlos CHAGUACEDA and Ms. Jennifer ZHANG, CEO of Spain Asialinkspain visited Ctrip’s Net Operating Center, and were amazed by Ctrip’s big data application and technological capability. Ctrip’s destination marketing department has carried out comprehensive cooperation with more than 300 destinations around the world.
