RAIPUR, INDIA – 8 Aug, 2017 – When our Constitution was adopted in 1950, the people of India solemnly resolved to constitute our Motherland into a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic, and to secure to our Citizens, Justice, Liberty, Equality and promote among them Fraternity. Democracy was meant to let us realize our hard earned Freedom, it was supposed be for the people and by the people. What we find after 67 years of self-governance is dismal! People are beginning to wonder if we are travelling in the wrong train!
Our bureaucracy, red-tapism and Nepotism practices truly have no match anywhere in the world. And neither is our politics free from any blame. The closing argument is that politics is a dirty business and our so called “mass leaders”, with their unbridled involvement in corrupt practices, have really stained the reputation of our country.
Over the past 30 years or so, we have seen many cases of corruption on a massive, nation wide level, but the recent act of abrupt obstinacy by Chhattisgarh CM Dr, Raman Singh is taking India’s reputation of that of an extensively corrupt country to a new pinnacle. Having adjourned the Chhattisgarh Legislative assembly unexpectedly after an adjournment motion was brought in to discuss Chief Minister’s Son Mr. Abhishek Singh’s (MP Loksabha) appearance in Panama Papers leak by ICIJ.
No, Mr. Chief Minister it’s not all games and toys to run away from your duties towards the public in order to protect your kith and kin.
The 11-day monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly ended in just two-and-a-half days. The House conducted all the businesses scheduled for the monsoon session and adjourned it sine-dine on Thursday afternoon, when the opposition protested against the rejection of there adjournment motion. The Opposition took a strong note as the session concluded before schedule. The opposition was looking forward to discussing the controversy as proof of Mr. Abhishek Singh’s identity was validated by the registered address on the papers, which happened to be the same as that of Dr. Raman Singh. The monsoon session, started from August 1, was scheduled to conclude on August 11 with eight sittings.
In the entire history of the state, no government, no party, has taken this kind of a reckless decision and hindered the State’s operations. Subsequently, members of the opposing party started raising anti-government slogans and trooped into the well of the House, following which they were automatically suspended as per the rules of the Assembly.
However, three MLAs Amit Jogi (Marwahi), Siyaram Kaushik (Bilha) and RK Rai (Gunderdehi) sat on the floor of the well demanding that the session be reconvened as they were not allowed to present their issues in the House.
What an unfathomable state of affair is our Country approaching towards? The opposition insisted that the reason for Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh’s appalling decision was to avoid being questioned about his Son and Lok Sabha MP, Mr. Abhishek/ Abhishak Singh’s alleged appearance in The Panama Papers.
What is more heartbreaking is that, such reckless decisions and irresponsible approach from a very senior politician of the ruling party and not even a single mainstream media house bothered to raise their voice.
The so called representatives acting bizarre, supposedly the voice of the nation; the media, choosing to share petty matters instead of putting light on such sensitive matters, it’s not long before we, “the people” end up being mere puppets.
The Pakistan Supreme Court on 28 July disqualified 67-year-old Nawaz Sharif for dishonesty and ruled that corruption cases be filed against him and his children over the Panama Papers scandal, forcing the embattled leader out of office.
We compete with our neighbors relentlessly over everything, how about taking a clue on how to keep corrupt and unruly politicians at bay?
Quoting Panama Papers leak, Last year (2016) senior Congress Leaders alleged that “Abhishek Singh aka Abhishak Singh, son of Dr Raman Singh”, of Kawardha in Chhattisgarh was a shareholder of Quest Heights Limited, as exposed by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), and demanded a judicial probe into it.
The confrontational leaders on Thursday (August,2017) accused the government of ignoring the ICIJ probe in the past and demanded Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh’s resignation over his son’s alleged ownership of assets in the British Virgin Islands.
Such defalcation and desecration of power is appalling. If this is how our representatives are going to make use of their authority for their own benefits, then it’s not at all wrong to say that, “Democracy is being murdered”
Sadly but unsurprisingly, no one so far has questioned these contractors of power. If we the people will not speak against this now, a second chance will never be given.
This is yet another scandal that will contribute towards blotting the image of politics, politicians and our Country.
It’s a defeat of the Democracy!
Winston Churchil should be laughing in his grave finding his predictions about our congenital inability to govern ourselves coming true!
