The leader of one of the largest LGBT organizations in the U.S. has offered his outspoken praise to Lady Gaga for her highly-regarded Super Bowl halftime show and for her becoming quite possibly the best-known LGBT celebrity advocate in the world. He also invited her to sing at a major Pride festival next year.
Lady Gaga proclaimed her over-the-top Super Bowl extravaganza as an act of LGBT activism. During the show, she performed the Pride anthem “Born This Way.” She has also been outspoken against President Trump and what is perceived to be an anti-LGBT administration. Earlier this week, during her Los Angeles show, Lady Gaga addressed the LGBT community several times and was quoted as saying, “Everyone is family here” and “everyone’s gotta love each other.”
Dr. David Kilmnick, Chief Executive Officer for New York City and Long Island-based LGBT Network, gave the chart-topping singer such admiration and formally invited her to perform at the group’s annual Pride Weekend next summer.
“Lady Gaga is unquestionably the most recognized LGBT icon of her generation and we would be ecstatic if she were able to entertain next year during Long Island Pride celebration,” remarked Dr. Kilmnick. “We had over 30,000 people attend Pride on the Beach in Long Beach, NY this year and would welcome Lady Gaga to join us in 2018 for an even bigger and more special celebration of Pride.”
“We love Lady Gaga as a performer and even more important, for what she stands for,” continued Dr. Kilmnick. “She is fearless and stands up strong for what she believes in and those are key elements to fostering social change.”
The LGBT Network is a home and voice for LGBT people, their families and support systems throughout Long Island and in New York City. LGBT Network produces the annual three-day Long Island Pride Weekend every year and it has become one of the largest Pride events in the New York metropolitan area. This summer’s festivities were held in the City of Long Beach, NY where the area’s beaches and boardwalk attracted over 30,000 visitors.
