INDIA – 15 Aug, 2017 – In honor of Janmashtami, the appearance day of Lord Sri Krishna, world-renowned yoga icon and Padma award winner Wai Lana is offering a special gift to the people of India. She has released her new “Oh My Sweet Lord” music video with subtitles in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
Wai Lana, who received the Padma Award for her extraordinary achievements in popularizing yoga globally, released her “Oh My Sweet Lord” music video to celebrate the recent International Day of Yoga 2017. Like her Namaste and Alive Forever videos in the past, “Oh My Sweet Lord” has also quickly become very popular, having been viewed over a million times in the first 2 weeks.
Wai Lana’s unique approach to sharing yoga wisdom has touched the hearts and minds of countless people all over the world. In 2015, she released Namaste, which spread the message that we are all brothers and sisters and should care for and be respectful to one another. Then in 2016, Wai Lana’s Alive Forever short film delivered a beautiful cinematic expression of the ancient meditation “Aham Brahmasmi,” which showed us that by appreciating the immortality of the soul we can overcome the sadness that often accompanies the aging of our bodies.
“Oh My Sweet Lord” picks up from there. Knowing that we are eternal, Wai Lana now reminds us to always remember our Sweet Lord and, in doing so, our loneliness will subside and our desire to love and be loved will be fulfilled.
Wai Lana said she was initially hesitant to release this new song. “I wasn’t sure if or how well people would relate to “Oh My Sweet Lord”. Some people only think of asanas when it comes to yoga. But this song dives into the deepest meaning and purpose of yoga, which is to awaken and cultivate our relationship with the Supreme Soul.”
Perhaps greatly underestimating its success, Wai Lana expressed, “I thought to myself, maybe “Oh My Sweet Lord”will only get 4 thousand views, not over 4 million views like Alive Forever. But at least I would have helped those 4 thousand people to remember their Sweet Lord. So I decided to go ahead and release it.”
When asked how she came up with such a unique idea for a music video, Wai Lana said, “The idea for this song came naturally for me because it centers around a part of my daily yoga practice—singing and meditating upon the names of my Sweet Lord.”
With “Oh My Sweet Lord”, we get a glimpse into Wai Lana’s heart and soul, her motivation, and the source of the wisdom and spiritual love that has inspired her to help so many over the past 40 years.
As one viewer commented:
“It lifts me. This really made my day to hear and see such beauty. It touches me deep inside my heart and brings tears of joy to my eyes.? Thank you so much.”
Wai Lana’s captivating music and lyrics create a unique genre which can best be described as music of the heart. Her Namaste, Alive Forever, and “Oh My Sweet Lord” tracks are part of a new Alive Forever album that will be released later this year. Not simply an entertainer, Wai Lana’s songs are full of spiritual depth and inspiration as she shares how yoga wisdom can be a simple yet powerful foundation for improving one’s life.
