The global production of dolls and toys was estimated at 40 billion USD in 2015, which was 3.7 billion USD (or 10%) more than in 2014. There was an annual increase of +7.5% in in value terms for the period from 2007 to 2015. In physical terms, dolls and toys production reached 5.2 million tonnes, an increase of 26% against the previous year.
According to market research conducted by IndexBox, China was the key world dolls and toys producing country, with an output of about 28,000 million USD in 2015, accounting for 70% of total global production. The other major producers were the U.S. (2%), and Canada (2%).
In China, production levels increased by +18.5% annually from 2007 to 2015, largely as a result of the country’s concentration of large-scale production capacity. A significant increase in production figures over the past eight year period was also recorded in Viet Nam (+24.9%), another Asian country, which, along with China, is one of the key producing regions in Asia. Over the period under review, Japan registered a more modest rate of growth (+4.6%).
Relocating production facilities to Asia has resulted in reduced output in various developed countries, such as the U.S. and Canada, when production levels decreased by -7.8% and -11.8%, respectively, year on year from 2007 to 2015.
