Larry Dodson of the Bar-Kays to release highly anticipated tell-all book

MEMPHIS, TN – 22 Aug, 2017 – Larry Dodson is set to release the highly-anticipated memoir, “And the Band Plays On” Sept. 16.  With the help of author and editor Shelia E. Bell, the songwriter, producer, gold- and platinum-selling artist opens up about his “rock star” journey as the lead singer of the iconic funk and R&B band, the Bar-Kays. The book reveals his struggles and successes in the music industry, and the process of navigating through it all to become a content family man, successful businessman, and soon to be retired after almost five decades as the Bar-Kays’ lead singer.

“I am so proud of myself and this book, which has been such a rewarding experience to write.  I hope that everyone enjoys it as much as I have writing it because it’s really a great read,” said Dodson.

From overcoming difficult family problems, to battling and overcoming drug addiction, alcohol abuse, industry controversy, and other demons that come along with being a lead singer of an internationally renowned band, Dodson, who will be retiring at the end of 2017, candidly reveals the peaks and valleys of his career with the world-famous Bar-Kays. He reflects on his collaborations with funk legends such as George Clinton, Sly Stone, and other funk, soul, and R&B icons both in and out of the recording studio. He also recounts his experiences while recording many albums at Stax Records.

The release of the book will be kicked off with a book signing presented by Black Writers and Book Clubs Literacy Association on Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hickory Ridge Mall, 6075 Winchester in Memphis.
