Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA – August 25, 2017 – Florida Solar One has announced that they have built the largest as well as the highest producing solar system in the Cayman Islands to help the local community with sustainable electric power. The Fort Lauderdale based company has completed this project alongside Cayman Solar and US Solar Institute to power up a school, an arts and recreation center, an aquatic center, several classrooms and an admin building.
“We have come together to design, install, and commission this effective and independent solar system in one of the Cayman Islands’ most prestigious schools to help the community and children with their basic need of uninterrupted and ecofriendly electricity,” said the spokesperson of Florida Solar One while talking about this solar system installation. “The Cayman International School and Aquatic Center are run and operated by the Dart Real Estate Company and we are very grateful to them for their full support and cooperation in this project,” he added.
According to the School Director Dr. Jeremy Moore, this project of collaborative effort will inspire the students to preserve energy and use natural energy sources to reduce the CO2 emissions that spoil the environment. Dr. Jeremy also emphasized on the fact that this project is a great example of project-based learning and will inspire the students to become better and more creative citizens when they grow up.
CIS is a premier international school located in the heart of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and it has a strong sense of community where students study, learn, play, and support each other in a beautiful, safe, and student-focused environment. The aquatic center is located next to the school’s campus, and it includes an eight-lane Olympic swimming pool.
According to Ray Johnson, the Project Engineer with Cayman Solar, more than 1,200 solar panels capable of producing 2,000 kWh per day have been installed in the past three years and this new installation will add to the system to help the schools as well as the students while making the establishment more eco-friendly. Johnson also said that these solar panels could have been enough to power 30 family homes for a month and this is undisputedly the single largest solar program in the Cayman Islands.
