Hurricane Harvey has devastated lives and displaced entire families in Houston, Texas. To help those who have lost everything, Uncommon Redesigns, a small business in Florida run by Charie Williams has embarked on a donation campaign for relief, called ‘Redesign to Rebuild Houston’.
‘Redesign to Rebuild Houston’ aims to collect furniture received from designers and deliver it to the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, TX. The drive will rely on collaborations with other furniture designers who are engaged in redesigning and custom wood furniture.
Apart from displacing families, Hurricane Harvey has also flooded homes and damaged possessions. In the aftermath, people will be faced with the challenge of re-making their homes, some literally from scratch. The free furniture and home décor provided by the Redesign to Rebuild Houston Project will work as an immediate solution to many such requirements.
“Like most of you, I have watched helplessly as my beautiful city deals with this unfortunate disaster (Hurricane Harvey). I knew I wanted to do something, but I wanted it to be bigger than what my small business could provide. I therefore started Redesign to Rebuild Houston,” says Charie Williams.
The project has begun rallying furniture redesigners as well as identifying the recipient families who are reeled with a total loss. On the load day, a tractor trailer in Tampa will be filled up with redesigned and donated furniture, and driven over a thousand miles to Houston. There will be stops en route to pick up donations from all participating designers. On arrival in Houston, a delivery day will be held, with furniture sorted out and loaded into trucks.
“We are aiming at providing families with furniture to fill their homes before Thanksgiving 2017,” says Charie.
