Vista, CA – Solutions for Change is thrilled to announce that on the 6th of December, over 100 formerly homeless parents, and their children will walk into a dramatic transformation of the Solutions for Change campus they left that morning. This is in preparation for the festive season, to give the families hope and to serve as a reminder that they are part of a loving community.
Solutions for Change was established to address the root causes of poverty and dependency to equip people with the skills, knowledge, and resources to permanently solve their challenges and transform their lives. Solutions for Change offers a blend of affordable housing, education, employment training, career pathways, and personal development all within one cohesive program.
Solutions for Change serves as a beacon of hope for all who seek to overcome, with a mission of solving family homelessness – one family, one community at a time.
Since its inception, Solutions for Change has brought transformation into the lives of families by giving them a chance to live a full life. During the festive season, volunteers adopt a unit and deck it out with holiday cheer for the family which includes stocked refrigerators, handmade quilts, personal notes of encouragement, gifts under the tree, etc. Families return to their homes to find them magically transformed into a Christmas Wonderland.
“Looking back on our first holiday season at Solutions, we were all so excited! My parents struggled a lot as my siblings and I were growing up so this Christmas was a whole different vibe! It was the first Christmas we got to celebrate together as a family and in our place. Volunteers decorated our apartment, baked cookies, and had dinner cooking in the oven when we arrived home. Plates and utensils were laid out, everything was beautiful, and we were in complete shock. My little brother got his first bike ever, and happy tears streamed down all of our faces. It is a memory I will cherish forever.” These are the words of Criselda Martinez-Jiminez, a former student at Solutions for Change.
The decorating will take place in shifts from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm with families arriving home at 5:00 pm, and a celebratory holiday reception for the sponsors and volunteers from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.
For the homeless, the holiday season is one filled with uncertainty and unfulfilled dreams. The opportunity to experience a wholesome Christmas is a dream come true and this initiative should be lauded.
