World War II is remembered for umpteen numbers of reasons, and one of them is undoubtedly the Jerry Cans. Thoughtfully designed with 3 handles for convenient and speedy transportation of fuel, those cans were lauded by President Roosevelt himself for their legendary role in winning the war. Cut to 2017, a Danish company, Danish Fuel, has up-cycled those historical cans into luxury bar cabinets with the aim to immortalize the iconic WWII hero. Entitled as Danish Fuel Bar Cabinet, the cabinets recently made their debut on Kickstarter.
The Kickstarter campaign is geared to raise around DKK 200,000 by December 4.
“Jerry Cans were one of the greatest heroes of the historic 2nd World War. It’s those cans that helped the American armies to cut their way across France at a lightning-fast pace that successfully exceeded the infamous 1940 Nazi Blitz. Now, we have up-cycled these WWII heroes into a plush cabinet for another kind of fuel. It’s our way of paying tribute to those legendary war icons that won the battle for us”, smiled René Sundahl, the man behind Danish Fuel.
The bar cabinets come up with shelves to hold the bottles and glasses. The front part of the jar has been redesigned to open up as a pouring table. Inside, the cabinet can fit 3-4 bottles, four long drinking glasses, and one cocktail shaker set. The pouring table is available in various wood variations. It’s a wall-mounted cabinet that can be hinged to the wall with screws (available with a package) and can be locked up when not in use.
Unfortunately, Danish Fuel was completely burnt down a few months back. Worse, the company’s insurance agency was not ready to cover for the loss.
“We were proceeding in full glory with our up-cycling project when a devastating fire knocked us down. However, we prefer to look forward and are determined to fulfill our mission to immortalize the Jerry cans and make homes more beautiful. Unfortunately, our insurance company has denied aiding and thus this Kickstarter campaign. Your generous support would help us to rebuild our company and realize our mission.”
All the up-cycled Jerry Cans by Danish Fuel are handcrafted in Denmark based on reusage and a remake of old WWII Jerry cans. Thus, no two cans are alike, and every piece shines in its own unique glory.
The Danish Fuel Bar Cabinet was born out of 6 major steps:
Salvation – The Jerry Cans were sliced open & adapted.
Stripping – The cans were cleared of old paint & rust and were sandblasted.
Laser-cutting – The cans were taken through laser-cutting to cut out the front surface.
Paint job – Cans received a new wear-resistant paint.
Wood Work – Wood was pressure treated & varnished to form the interior of the can including the shelves and pouring table.
Assembly – Cans were put back together to complete the bar cabinet.
At present, the company has come up with 4 variations of the Danish Fuel Bar Cabinets.
Backers would be rewarded with different versions of Danish Fuel Bar Cabinets at highly discounted prices.
