Former Teen Mom and Silicon Valley native, Chandra Brooks Launches a book on politics “Black, Brown, and Political”

November 9, 2017 – Chandra announces the Launching of her book “Black, Brown, and Political” on the 8th of November, 2017. The Social-Preneur, a purpose-driven business that prepares potential candidates to get ready to run for political office and mentors women to own their power and leadership within their company, business, and/or community. Paired with a book titled, Black, Brown & Political: Get Informed, Get Empowered and Change the Game.

In this inspiring book “Black, Brown, and Political” Chandra provides an easy way to understand tips and resources to navigate local community government to get involved now, and shares stories of local elected officials who take advantage of our non-engagement.

“Ten years ago, when I started following politics, I quickly figured out that it impacted everything. When I speak about local politics with friends, family, and acquaintances, they have no idea what I’m talking about. They vaguely know who their Mayor is or what he/she does or who their local elected officials were. They have no idea that in local elections they have the opportunity to vote in Judges, District Attorneys, and the Sheriff. Said by Chandra as she also added, this was alarming to me. Communities of color are affected the most by these elected leaders decisions, and we have no idea who they are, where they come from and if they would make fair decisions and policies that would be detrimental or beneficial to our community. I also realized that I only understood this by my years of work in the community, public and government relations”.

This book is loaded with a wealth of information as the author is passionate about communities of color owning their power and taking their seat at the decision making tables in community leadership and politics. She truly believes if more of us got involved, engaged, and connected the dots we can literally change the game in our systems, communities, and schools. The most interesting part of this book is the eye-opener information embedded therein like the author was having a private conversation with you. Enjoy some intriguing part of this book. “As a community, we get excited about having a black President, a Latina Congresswoman or Senator but we forget about all the other elections going on all around us every day, like your local City Council elections, Board of Supervisors, Judges, and District Attorneys. But we’ll stand in line for hours upon hours for newly released shoes, and phones without hesitation, while letting factors like weather, long lines and transportation prevent us from getting out the vote for a great candidate that would represent our community as a whole and our best interests.

I’ve also found that we are noticeably absent from the political arena when it comes to our money. For example, we’ll spend money for tickets to sporting events, concerts and other forms of high ticket entertainment, but fail to make contributions to a grassroots community leader trying to raise money to run for office or even donate to campaigns that will benefit our communities”.
