The little girl loves her pink rowboat. She rows herself out into the ocean, to the beach and along the shoreline. She loves to be out on the water, but she doesn’t like the idea of being in the water. She’s scared. She’s afraid of sharks and other wild sea creatures. One day while she is at the beach, the tide comes in and washes her pink rowboat away from shore. The only way to reach the boat is by going in the water. The girl doesn’t want to lose the boat, so she starts walking and then swimming in the ocean to rescue her boat. She discovers that she loves the water and she’s a very good swimmer. She has overcome her fears.

Kelsey McDaniel’s picture book story, The Little Girl and Her Pink Rowboat, is a sweet story about a little girl that has to face her fear of being in the water in order to save something precious to her, her pink rowboat. The story follows a little girl’s adventure on the beach and how she enjoys the sand, the sandcastles and so much more. The lesson of the story is having the courage to face one’s fears. We are all afraid of something and it takes a lot of courage to overcome these fears. The little girl overcame hers and the young reader will certainly relate to her journey to overcome her fears. The story is cleverly developed with lovely illustrations by David Riley. The illustrations help carry the story along. A wonderful little story of encouragement.”
