November, 2017, Romeo Power Technology, the energy storage technology company founded by top engineers and designers from SpaceX, Tesla, Amazon and Samsung, has completed its fully-automated 113,000 square-foot lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing facility in Vernon near downtown Los Angeles, and will inaugurate the new facility with a ribbon cutting and factory tours on Tuesday, November 14. Romeo is leading the charge in lithium-ion battery storage technology for electric vehicles (EVs), stationary storage and now personal power, with the recent announcement of its Saber powerbank. The company designs, engineers, tests and produces its EV and stationary lithium-ion battery packs on-site, and the facility features the only research, development and testing lab on the West Coast. The fully-automated factory is slated to manufacture 1 gigawatt hour by end of year and will quadruple its capacity in 2018 to 4 gigawatt hours.
October, 2017, Toshiba Corporation, an industry leader in lithium-ion battery technology, today announced the development of its next-generation SCiB, which uses a new material to double the capacity of the battery anode. The new battery offers high- energy density and the ultra-rapid recharging required for automotive applications, and will give a compact electric vehicle (EV) with a drive range of 320km*1 after only six minutes of ultra-rapid recharging—three times the distance possible with current lithium-ion batteries. The new battery also offers high energy density and ultra-rapid recharging characteristics, and its titanium niobium oxide anode is much less likely to experience lithium metal deposition during ultra-rapid recharging or recharging in cold conditions—a cause of battery degradation and internal short circuiting.
July, 2017, SII Semiconductor Corporation, a subsidiary of Seiko Instruments Inc., introduces the S-8223A/B/C/D Series 2-to-3 cell secondary battery protection IC for lithium-ion rechargeable batteries.
