January 23, 2018 – US – Research Result published – A group of researchers from two of America’s Nobel universities – Binghamton University & Rutgers University in a bid to discover another self-healing additive for concrete which can provide it a self-repairing capability; have found out that embedding a typical fungus – called ‘Trichoderma reesei’ into the concrete can provide it with healing properties.

January 31, 2018 – China – Research Result published – researchers at the Harbin Institute of Technology (China) have developed an advent self-healing coating with a hardness that even approaches tooth enamel by mimicking the structure of epidermis. The invention is the most desirable property combination in the current self-healing materials and coatings.

February 06, 2018 – Japan – Research Result published – Japanese student, Yu Yanagisawa at the University of Tokyo, while trying to invent a new type of Adhesive, accidently found a new type of polymer glass that can heal itself just within 30 seconds once smashed. This newly discovered self-healing polymer besides providing higher resilience to smartphones; will also be helpful in reducing e-wastes in the future.

The material is currently under development at the university and could potentially be used in smartphones so that people will not have to replace broken screens.
