Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign in UAE Schools to Provide Education And Tools For Students To Protect Themselves Online

More Than 30 Schools And 100,000 Students, Teachers, And Educators expected To Participate

Dubai, UAE – With cybersecurity becoming more of a severe issue in today’s digital world, it is essential to prepare young people for the challenges ahead., in association with Curtin University and the world’s leading cyber security company, Norton by Symantec, announced they are joining forces for the Student Cybersecurity Awareness Day campaign in selected schools across UAE. The program starts on February 21st and ends on May 21st, 2018. The program is organized to create awareness among school students, parents, and educators on e-safety, cyber security, cyberbullying, device vulnerability, ransomware, and other risks we face in today’s hyper-connected world. Over 30 schools across UAE and around 90,000 students, parents and educators are expected to participate.

Interested schools who want to participate can log in to and post a request with the details of their school.

“Recent research shows that the UAE is the second most targeted country for cybercrimes, after the United States. When it comes to cybercrime no one is safe, especially our young and innocent children. We have a responsibility as a people to protect ourselves and our children against those who don’t mean well for us. That is why we are organizing this event; to provide school children, parents, and educators the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves while on the internet,” said Bibin Boby, CEO, Digital First Solutions LLC and the organizer of the event.

“Millennials, a generation raised in the digital era and who regularly use multiple devices while at home on the go, are far more likely to experience cybercrime than other generations. According to our recent Norton Cyber Security Insights Report, 58 per cent of UAE millennials experienced cybercrime in the last year alone, compared to only 46 per cent of Gen X and 28 per cent of Boomers. We’re proud to participate in this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign to foster greater awareness about the inherent risks of today’s connected world whilst arming students in the UAE with practical tips and tricks to stay protected.  We hope to help create a safer environment wherein everyone is empowered to use technology responsibly, respectfully and creatively,” said Tamim Taufiq, Head of Norton Middle East.

Student Cybersecurity Awareness Day campaign will deliver a comprehensive educational package to the UAE’s school system to ensure that students know how to protect themselves online. Cybersecurity is beyond anti-virus and firewalls; students need to learn the rudiments of online security including recent threats.

Several activities have been lined up for the campaign including classroom sessions, question and answer sessions, educational videos, and distribution of leaflets. Topics to be discussed include an introduction to student cybersecurity, implications of cybercrime, cybersecurity and the UAE’s law on cybercrime. Students will also learn online best practices to help stay protected against ransomware, phishing and clickjacking, and mobile threats, while learning what to do when they encounter online harassment or their personal information has been compromised in a data breach.

As part of the awareness campaign, are offering participating schools and their students limited, promotional offers on select  Norton cyber security solutions to help keep them protected against today’s sophisticated online threats.
