On Oct. 11, community leaders of El Cajon gathered with GUHSD staff and students for the grand opening of Valhalla High School’s new Main Building.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees toured the four-story building, which includes new technology upgrades, academic classrooms, and energy-saving systems. The Main Building, which is over 40 years old, was dramatically transformed, but still contains its most important historically elements. The new building was specially designed to enhance students learning by creating a more welcoming and modern environment.
The second floor includes a renovated theater, choral room, CTE classrooms, special education suites, and food services, while the third floor includes administration, guidance, and health services for students. In addition, the District also installed LED lighting, solar carports over the student parking, and other energy-saving measures that will increase energy efficiency and offset about 90% of the main building’s electricity usage.
The project took 14-month to complete and was funded by the Proposition U bond passed in November 2008 by East County voters.
