Competitive Robotics Team Exposes Students to Careers in Tech

Students in grades 4-6 at Bayside STEAM Academy have the opportunity to join competitive robotics teams. Team meetings occur four times each week for advisors to provide tailored instructions and lessons.

As members of the robotics team, students take part in various competitions throughout the school year. SeaPerch, an underwater robotics program, provides tools for students to build a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). Teachers receive kits equipped with various parts that follow a marine engineering theme. The competitions require students to demonstrate their ROV’s ability to maneuver through an underground pool and maze-like challenges.

Another competition allows students to pursue their interest in robotics through the First Lego League. Students are given a kit with EV3 robots and coaching throughout a 12-week program.

Bayside STEAM Academy continues to prepare students for a 21st Century future, by building a strong foundation in technology, engineering, and science. As the robotics teams continue to grow and expand, students will have additional opportunities to learn about the types of technology that may be useful in their education and career. Technology changes rapidly, but Bayside’s robotics team are on the cutting edge!
