Dr. John McDonald named 2018 CRC Medical Staff Leader of the Year

Award Recognizes Those Making a Difference in Organization and Professional Community

ARLINGTON, TX – John McDonald, MD, MSHM, CMQ, was recently recognized as 2018 CRC Medical Staff Leader of the Year. McDonald was awarded the 2018 CRC Medical Staff Leader of the Year award at the 2018 CRC Symposium, February 5-6 in Las Vegas.

The Credentialing Resource Center’s (CRC) Achievement Awards honors MSPs and medical staff leaders who make a difference in their organization and serve as an inspiration to the broader professional community. The Medical Staff Leader of the Year award recognizes an enthusiastic, agile, and forward-thinking vice president of medical affairs (VPMA), chief medical officer (CMO), medical staff officer, committee member, department chair, or similar leader.

McDonald has served as the chief medical officer at Medical City North Hills (MCNH) in North Richland Hills, Texas, since April 2014. A board‐certified pathologist, he has also been medical director of the MCNH laboratory since 1991. Throughout his career, Dr. McDonald has held a variety of leadership roles in medical staff affairs, including chief of staff and chairman of the board of trustees. Dr. McDonald holds a BS in biology from Texas Christian University, an MD from the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas (UT) Health Science Center at Houston, and an MS in healthcare management from UT Dallas. He completed his residency training at the Kansas University Medical Center and the UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. McDonald is board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology, cytopathology, blood banking/transfusion medicine, and medical quality.

“Being a medical staff volunteer leader is a vitally necessary role with significant impact upon patient success, physician success, and hospital success,” says 2018 CRC Conference Committee member Carol Cairns, CPMSM, CPCS. “It is often a thankless role and sometimes very politically charged with many negative consequences. Dr. McDonald’s contributions over 26 years speak volumes at how successful he was in his efforts. His continuous involvement in the medical affairs of the organization reflects a long time ‘calling’ and commitment to improve patient care.
