Smartphone addiction and the power of the social media barons are shaping up to be two of the big stories of 2018.
Punkt. is a Swiss company that was founded in 2008 with the specific aim of producing elegant consumer electronics devices for people who want to limit the amount of time they spend looking at pixels. Initially we were pretty much a voice in the wilderness, but in the last year or so this has changed dramatically.
A key feature of our company activities is the commissioning of top-quality articles on the theme of people’s relationship with technology.
To mark the beginning of Daylight Saving Time, on the 20th of March we published a short but intriguing article about time. It makes particular reference to the Time Well Spent movement, founded a couple of years ago by a senior defector from Google who has inside knowledge of the addiction-generating techniques that are deployed by Big Tech.
Office in a small city – Edward Hopper (1953)
A key tool in the breaking of tech addiction is the ‘digital sundown’, which primarily means: don’t let your smartphone be the last thing you interact with at night, and the first thing you hear in the morning.
Specialists in tech addiction are united in saying that getting a dedicated, analogue alarm clock is one of the most important things that we can do in order to reclaim our lives from the distraction specialists
