New Consumer Report Released Detailing What to Do Prior to Contacting a Mold Inspector

There are few experiences more traumatic for home or business owners than discovering that they may have a mold problem. A new report released by the National Press Distributors offers advice on what homeowners should do if they suspect they are suffering from mold, before contacting a mold inspector.

In damp climates, mold can be a huge problem. It can get into the floors and walls of structures and cause permanent damage if not eradicated quickly and completely. The best way to prevent mold from spreading is for the building owner to get the possibly-infected home or office mold tested. This can be done with a professional service, a kit, or a combination of both methods.

Mold Testing may include:

  • Air testing

  • Testing surfaces

  • Bulk testing

Mold testing should be done anytime mold is suspected. Here are some of the signs of a mold problem:

  • An unusual and unpleasant smell

  • Dark spots on the walls or floor

  • Allergies in the home that lessen when away

If mold is detected through the test, the best course of action is to contact a mold inspector to remove it. Mold can cause serious damage to the foundations of buildings and should not be left to grow. Many homeowners believe that the mold solution can be solved by simple application of bleach. However, bleach is water-based and water can cause mold to spread, so if the area isn’t completed dried, the bleach can actually cause the mold problem to worsen.

The best ways to avoid mold before it becomes a problem:

  • Homes should be kept as dry as possible using dehumidifiers, fans, and open windows.

  • Plumbing leaks should be fixed quickly

  • Window frames should be well-sealed to avoid rain-water seeping in

  • Clean textiles/curtains/sheets often and keep them dry

  • Store items in dry, well-ventilated areas.

Homeowners should try to avoid the costliness of mold, but if mold testing reveals that it is present, contacting a solid mold inspector is the next step.
