Reaching People Through Cross Cultural Communication

The Great Commission is to go out into all the nations of the world. That means going out into our own neighborhoods, staying where we are, going into the cities reaching urban youth, going into minority and poverty-stricken neighborhoods, reaching out to the well to do and the poor, or going out of our home country to the other side of the world. Wherever the calling is, communication must take place. A solid biblical background like that you would receive though E360 Bible Institute will give you the foundation you need.

Cross cultural communications are how to reach out to those in a different culture. It can mean different things in different parts of the world. The first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of communication is language. Language is a major part of communication and needs to be a major part of any outreach plan. Speaking to someone in their heart language is the most effective way to communicate with them.

The most common method for learning another language is by taking a formal course in that language. Formal courses are good because they help with learning the basics of a language and understanding how the syntax of a language is related to our own. It is also done under the care of a teacher that can help along the way. The downside of learning a language in a formal setting is that we typically learn technical aspects of a language but do not use the language in real-world settings, so we learn about the language but not how to communicate effectively in the language.

Another way of learning a different language is language learning software. The software is good because it allows us to work at our own pace and repeat lessons as much as we need to. The downside of software is that it is another technical method that has even less real-world usage. We get the basics of a language, but we do not usually learn how to effectively communicate.

A better method is to have a native language speaker tutor us. Tutoring can be done along with other language learning methods like a formal course or language learning software. The benefit of a tutor is that we can practice the language closer to real-world conversations check here for more resources. They can also help us with pronunciation better than a software or even a formal teacher can.

Some languages may be impossible to learn formally or through software because there is neither available for many languages. Some people groups are remote and have a very small number of native speakers compared to other languages. Many of these remote cultures may know another, more common, language, but it is still best to communicate with them in their heart language.

The best way to learn another language is through full immersion. Full immersion is almost the only way to learn a remote culture’s language but is also the best way to learn common languages. Full immersion involves getting fully involved with the culture of a language group and using the language as we learn it; it is the most effective way of learning a language.
