Ahrefs allows users to find out details about the top ranking pages for any given topic or keyword. The goal should be to look at the website with the lowest domain authority (DA), which appears on the first page of Google’s results. The length of the content of that blog should be calculated, and for beating that article users need to add around 500 words on top of that. For ranked websites that have articles exceeding 4000 words, users need to add at least 1000 words on top of that to have a chance of ranking above them.
With increased article length comes the risk of diminishing interest from readers who’re looking for something a bit more ‘bite-sized’. However, most bloggers simply don’t have a choice since articles with shorter lengths simply don’t rank as well on Google. In fact, research has shown that the top ranking pages on Google have content in excess of 1000 words.
The short answer, according to Logic Inbound, is that an article should be at least 3000 words in order for it to compete with the top-ranking pages on Google.
