Garden Grove Unified School District is proud to have eleven of its elementary schools awarded as 2018 California Distinguished Schools. The title, given to Allen, Cook, Evans, Faylane, Murdy, Paine, Patton, Rosita, Stanford, Warren, and Zeyen elementary schools, was given to elementary schools demonstrating outstanding education programs and practices. The California Distinguished Schools Program honors public schools in California that show growth in narrowing the achievement gap in exemplary and inspiring ways.
In order to achieve the status of a California Distinguished School, each of the eleven schools were assessed based on their performance in certain areas such as basic services and conditions of the school, implementation of state standards, parent engagement, student achievement, student engagement, and school climate.
California Distinguished Schools are considered model schools that emanate the highest academic gains and the best school cultures. Not only did Garden Grove Unified have eleven elementary schools fall into this category, but it had the most schools granted the title out of any Orange County school district and out of any comparable school district in California. This distinction can be attributed to the immense work staff and teachers put into the district daily, giving students tools for lifelong success.
Garden Grove Unified was also recognized as a California Exemplary District. As one of only 22 districts in the entire state to receive this recognition, GGUSD is proud to be considered a top achieving district and leader in academic excellence, and a top school district in Orange County.
