SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA –
Ambitious Sisters Launch Snack Company Specializing in Tasty, “Better-For-You” Desserts.
Based in San Francisco, Noelle and Sarah Yousef have combined their love for fruit and chocolate to create, Berra Bites, a company specializing in guilt-free, delicious treats.
Sisters Noelle, 28, and Sarah Yousef, 25, will be the first to admit they have a major sweet tooth. That’s why launching their own dessert company a little more than a year ago seemed like a no brainer for them. While the thought of launching Berra Bites and developing their business plan initially seemed scary, their hard work is paying off. During the first week of September, the sisters will officially debut their first snack product made up of delicious mixed-berry fruit centers covered in melt-in-your-mouth dark chocolate.
“We’re so excited to share our product with people, but also bracing ourselves for the work ahead,” stated Noelle. “Launching our own food company has taught us patience and persistence. We really didn’t realize the amount of complexity that goes into all of those products you see on a shelf. We now have a whole new level of respect for product brands in general. We have learned so much.”
Their debut snack will be available in specialty food markets and online nationwide. Fed-up with calorie snacks packed with artificial ingredients that no one can pronounce, Noelle and Sarah say they are on a mission to develop treats that are not only easy to digest but contain just simple ingredients—minus the fake stuff.
“Millennials make up such a large portion of the consumer market today,” stated Noelle. “People in the 20-35 age group are more likely to look up the ingredients in packaged foods. This is why we have taken the extra mile to make sure our ingredients are natural and trendy.”
According to a report by ReportLinker, the increasing consumer demand for organic and non-GMO foods is expected to grow at a CAGR of 16.23% through 2021. Last year, organic food sales increased by 6.4 percent from the year before, blowing past the 1.1 percent growth rate in the overall food market. (Organic Trade Association)
“We are Project Non-GMO, Kosher, and Fair Trade certified. We do not use any artificial ingredients or preservatives. Our bite’s size is smaller, so they’re easier and more enjoyable to eat and can be used as a topping for ice cream, yogurt, popcorn, trail mix, etc.,” explained Noelle. “We focus on the flavor of our product and don’t compromise on the quality of the ingredients we use to save on cost. We set out to create something we love to eat, so we wouldn’t offer anything less to our customers.”
To come up with the perfect recipes for their company, the sisters, who moved to the United States from the Middle East a little more than a decade ago, are always experimenting with different flavors inside their kitchen to get the perfect combo. Through a lot of trial and error, the end result has been met by mostly positive reviews.
“Consumers have told us that they particularly like the size of the actual bites because they’re not too big, and they also enjoy the balance between fruit and chocolate. People also like the certifications that we went after and really value them,” stated Sarah.
With the upcoming launch of Berra Bites’ debut product, the sisters say they will continue to dream big and remain committed to growing their brand. In the near future, they look forward to creating additional fruit centers covered in dark chocolate. Through continued hard work and dedication, the sisters say their long-term goal is to ultimately become a nationally recognized brand known for making all-natural and tasty, sweet snack products.
