Shopify is a popular eCommerce platform that is favored by both individuals and small businesses who’re interested in creating an online store. The platform’s ease of use and affordability have made it a top choice even for users who do not have any technical development knowledge.
But Shopify wants to appeal to all types of buyers out there, including enterprise eCommerce businesses. For these businesses, Shopify has the Plus plan which includes access to better features and custom integrations. However, the company does not publicly disclose the pricing for the Plus plan, which causes a lot of confusion amongst its customers.
Logic Inbound have recently published an article which examines Shopify Plus Pricing in great detail, and covers some of its associated costs as well. According to the article, the first thing to consider with Shopify Plus pricing is that it is completely negotiable and varies from one customer to the other.
With the Plus plan, Shopify is aiming for enterprise businesses, or online merchants that shift a significant amount of goods each month. But instead of a standard price plan, Shopify offers negotiable pricing that varies based on the requirements of the customer.
Shopify says that the average monthly sales of a Shopify Plus store are in excess of $1 million. Clearly then, the Plus plan is not meant for smaller businesses or individuals.
As for the pricing, Shopify charges 2.5% of monthly sales as its platform charges. That means, for an online store that earns $800,000 a month, the monthly platform charges will be $2000. However, $2000 is the minimum amount that is charged for the Plus plan. So even if a store makes, say, $100,000, they’re still expected to pay $2000 each month.
Shopify Plus users get access to an API which allows for deep integrations of other systems with the Shopify platform. Larger businesses tend to have some sort of an ERP and/or CRM in place, and the Shopify API is vital if these need to be integrated with the business’s Shopify store.
Shopify stores that receive a significant amount of traffic should consider Shopify Plus, but only after a thorough analysis of their technical requirements. Preferably, a Shopify development agency should be consulted before this decision is made. To get the best consultation, a digital marketing agency that is also a Shopify Partner should be considered.
