Shopify has become one of the top choices for people looking for a comprehensive eCommerce solution. Using this web service, anyone can create a professional online store, without touching even a line of code. There are other services which basically, offer the same capabilities. However, none of them quite match Shopify when it comes to third-party support for add-ons and themes.
Logic Inbound, a digital marketing agency in Seattle, has recently published an article which provides an overview of Shopify Themes. Themes are website layout designs that are created by professional designers and developers. Shopify themes are made specifically for the platform, and any of these themes can be downloaded and used on any Shopify store out there.
Website layout themes are nothing new, but the quality of Shopify themes makes them stand out. The Shopify Store hosts around 63 themes in total, out of which just 10 are free. The number of free themes is definitely on the low side, but users shouldn’t be discouraged. Most of the themes (free and paid) come in 2 or 3 design variations, so there’s a bit more choice than is apparent.
The free themes have been designed very well, and don’t really look any worse than their paid counterparts. In fact, the only themes you’ll find that have been designed by Shopify are actually the free themes. The paid themes are all the work of third-party designers. As a result of this, only the free themes are officially supported by Shopify. Any issues regarding the paid themes will have to be redirected to the respective Shopify developers.
The paid themes are relatively expensive, costing anywhere from $140 to $180. These offer a lot more choice when it comes to design, when compared to the free themes. The quality of the design isn’t necessarily better, but there are a lot more options to choose from.
For users who can’t find what they’re looking for on the official Shopify theme store, third-party theme marketplaces offer a promising alternative. Sites like ThemeForest and Template Monster host more than a thousand templates between them and have strict code checks in place to ensure only quality themes are uploaded. What’s more, prices for premium templates start at just $39 here, significantly lower than premium templates found on the official Shopify store.
For users who’re on a strict budget, opting for a free template is a very good decision. The free themes do not lack any important features, and have a reasonably professional design. Shopify has made sure that there’s a free theme available for every store niche.
