Gas to liquid (GTL) Market by Product, by Application and by Region and by Forecast | Global Gas to liquid (GTL) Market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.00% by Forecast 2022

Market Overview:-

Gas to liquid (GTL) is a refinery process that converts natural gas or other gaseous hydrocarbons into longer-chain hydrocarbons such as gasoline or diesel fuel. The process converts methane-rich gases into liquid synthetic fuels by direct conversion or by using synthetic gas (syngas) as an intermediate through the Fisher Tropsch process.

South-Africa was the second largest market for the gas-to-liquid. It accounted for a share of 16.57% in the global Gas to liquid (GTL) Market , in 2016. In Mossel Bay town, South Africa, PetroSA, operates the GTL plant. It produces 45,000 barrels per day, which includes diesel, gasoline, kerosene and specialty products.

Development of stringent environmental regulations by numerous governments to control pollution and promote cleaner fuel sources is expected to complement industry growth. Guidelines implemented such as Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act, 2006, Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act of 1948, and Oil Industry (Development) Act, 1974 are likely to encourage GTL application in diverse end-use industries to conserve natural gas and other resources.

Leading Key Players:-

The key players of global gas to liquid (GTL) market are Royal Dutch Shell plc. (The Netherlands), Chevron Corporation (U.S.), Sasol Limited (South Africa), PetroSA (South Africa), Velocys Plc. (U.K.), ORYX GTL (Qatar),  OLTIN YO’L GTL (Uzbekistan ) and others.

Chevron Corporation the second-largest share top five market players in the gas to liquid market with a share of 47.10%, followed by Sasol Limited with market share of 1.68%. Over the years Sasol has been able to establish itself in the markets of South Africa and Canada. Relying on further expansion into other countries to achieve operational efficiencies, stands as the most important strategy, followed by the company. Sasol together with Uzbekneftegaz and Petronas are building the Uzbekistan GTL plant. The 38,000 bpd plant will produce a combination of diesel and naphtha and kerosene for the aviation sector and will help the country reduce its dependence on imports of crude oil. The project is estimated to cost USD 4.5 billion.

Market Segmentation:-

Increasing population across the globe have led to the increase in the power consumption. There is a high demand for natural gas liquids products in the residential sector, petrochemical plants refineries, and various industries such as the automobile industry, and packaging industry, among others. NGLs products have wide usage such as fuel in furnaces for heating, in cooking, as an energy source for water heaters, laundry dryers, barbecues, portable stoves, and motor vehicles.

Royal Dutch Shell plc. (The Netherlands), Chevron Corporation (U.S.), Sasol Limited (South Africa), PetroSA (South Africa), and Velocys Plc. (U.K.) has been recognized as the global leaders with serving the quality products of gas to liquid. There is a constant rise in the demand for NGLs products in refineries. Due to rising environmental concerns, there is an increase in demand for isobutane primarily used by refineries to increase the octane number of motor gasoline to enhance its quality. These end use sectors will create a lucrative revenue pocket for gas to liquid market in near future.

Regional Analysis:-

On the basis of region, GTL market has been segmented as the U.S., Qatar, South Africa, Nigeria, and Malaysia. Qatar accounted for the largest market share of 64.06% in 2016, with a market value of USD 235.7 Million. Currently, two GTL plants operate in Qatar. One of the plants is in Ras Laffan Industrial City, operated by Oryx, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (51 percent) and Sasol of South Africa (49 percent). This plant has the capacity to produce 34,000 barrels per day of liquids (24,000 barrels of GTL diesel, 9,000 barrels of naphtha and 1,000 barrels of liquefied petroleum gas). The second plant is also in the same city, operated by Qatar Petroleum and Shell.
